Minister Han Changfu met with Mr. Tkachev Alexander, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, on June 2, 2016. The two sides exchanged views on deepening the bilateral agricultural cooperation.
Minister Han Changfu welcomed the participation of the Russian delegation in the G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting. He noted that China and Russia are highly complementary in agriculture and hence it is in the interests of both to intensify cooperation, particularly in investment, technologies and machinery. Despite of significant progress in agricultural investment cooperation over recent years, there is great potential to be tapped.
Minister Han Changfu suggested that the competent departments of the two sides encourage and support enterprises to conduct further cooperation in agriculture. In particular, enterprises in Northeast China and Russian Far East should leverage geographical advantages and boost mutually beneficial investment cooperation. As for the bilateral agricultural trade, Minister Han Changfu hoped that the competent agencies from the two sides enhance consultations to address technical issues in line with regulations of relevant international organizations and both countries.
Tkachev Alexander gave positive response to China's proposals for future cooperation.
